In 2007, the Canadian province of Alberta implemented the first greenhouse gas emissions trading system in North America. Alberta’s “Specified Gas Emitters” Regulation has demonstrated the mechanics of emissions trading and produced significant emissions reductions, while avoiding the pitfalls of other early emissions trading systems.
How does Alberta’s “Baseline and Credit” emissions trading system compare with the EU’s “Cap and Trade” system? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Alberta system? What is the connection between Alberta’s emissions trading system and cogeneration? To find out more about Alberta’s ET system, open the .ppt file under this paragraph. This file is Enerhope’s September 1st presentation to Cogeneration Canada, in Calgary, Alberta.
